Synthetic vs Conventional Oil

Synthetic vs Conventional Oil

At one time or another, we have all taken part of this scenario in some fashion.

You are standing in the aisle of an auto department store on a Saturday morning shopping for oil.  In an aisle in is a weekend warrior holding in one hand a bottle of conventional motor oil; in other, synthetic.   A confused look is upon his face, and you know just what he’s thinking:

“I have no idea what to choose? Should I go with synthetic oil or convensynthetic-vs-conventional-oil-burlington-kiational oil. Should I choose by brand? Does it really make that much of a difference?”

In that moment you realize, that you and the man described above share a common bond. But don’t worry.  There are answers to these common automotive questions.

The first thing anyone should do in this scenario, is take a deep breath, put both bottles back on the shelf, and head back to your car in the parking lot.  Next, open your glove box, dig past the mints, expired flares, tissues, and read what is in your owner’s manual.  Your owners manual will describe which oil is suitable for your vehicle.

Conventional Oil:

Conventional motor oil has been used in automobiles for over 100 years.  Over the years, important additives have been added to conventional oil that are vital in keeping engines running their best.  These additives provide proper heat tolerance and breakdown resistance.

Conventional oil costs very little and sometimes is referred to as the less effective oil due to its price.  However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Although it is true that conventional oil requires frequent oil changes, it is also true that it is recommended by millions of auto service professionals around the globe.

Synthetic oil:

synthetic-vs-conventional-oil-burlington-kia-njSynthetic oil was created in a lab a long time ago.  Some say it was invented as far back as 1897, and has been prolonging the life of engines ever since. Most modern auto major auto makers recommend synthetic oil for any of their new vehicle. Synthetic oil takes significantly longer to break down than traditional oils, so engines can go further without an oil change.  It better lubricates parts under extreme temperatures as conventional oil.  It also performs better in stop and go traffic.  It truly has more benefits than conventional oil, but these benefits sometimes come at a hefty price.

Ultimately, synthetic oils can be very expensive.  However, using synthetic oils over time can be the difference between your engine lasting 100,000 miles and 250,000 miles.

Choosing oils:

When you’re in the aisle deciding on which oil to choose, be sure to first read your owner’s manual.  Whatever the automaker’s recommendation should be considered your best choice.  What you need to look out for is the API service rating on the bottle. If it has this rating, you know that your oil has come from a trustworthy source.

Still Unsure whether to choose Synthetic or Conventional Oil?

Top Five Best Restaurants in Burlington, NJ

Burlington is thriving. The 2010 census shows our population up by a fraction under two percent since the previous survey. That, combined with our unique position – as a city in New Jersey, but a suburb of Philadelphia – has seen some interesting developments on our dining scenes.

While determining any sort of best restaurants in NJ will always reflect personal taste, this list suggests restaurants ideal for trying something that may perhaps be new to you.

Blue Claw Crab Eatery

Not surprisingly, Blue Claw specializes in seafood. Blue crabs, Dungeness crabs, king crabs, snow crabs, soft shell crabs, just about every popular variety is represented. What may be a new experience is enjoying fresh product, rather than food that’s been wheeled from the back of a deep-freeze truck. The crabs served here are fresh everyday, flown in from sources as distant as Florida, the pristine waters of Baja in Mexico, and the northern pacific.

Casamari Italian Traditions

No list of Jersey restaurants would be complete without Italian cuisine, but – defying the tradition of lengthy dinnertime experiences – Casamari Italian Traditions has worked hard to produce a great lunchtime menu. The midday wait staff is as attentive, friendly and efficient as their evening counterparts, and of course the beautiful decor, with its feel of olde world Italy, remains unchanged. Every meal is delivered with fresh bread and pizza bites; don’t miss out on the Eggplant Rollatini with a side of Pasta Marinara (it alone qualifies Casamari as one of the best restaurants in NJ).

Best Restaurants in NJ

Cafe Bombay

Café Bombay is family owned Indian restaurant and dedicated to providing exceptional, authentic Indian cuisine to Burlington New Jersey residents.  Offering a large variety of authentic Indian dishes that encompass the diverse culture, you can be certain that everything at Café Bombay is cooked fresh from scratch.  Some of their best dishes include:

  • Samosa
  • Rogan Josh
  • Kerala Shrimp Cury

Dolan’s Irish Pub

While English and Irish food has always been a big deal to the working immigrant population of the entire eastern seaboard, Dolan’s Irish Pub tries hard to be innovative in serving authentic versions of the classic Gael-Mheiriceánaigh favorites, including:

  • Guinness braised brisket
  • Harp-battered fish n’ chips
  • Shepherd’s pie made with Irish cheddar
  • Bangers and mash cooked using Irish sausages

Kum Fong’s Cuisines of China Restaurant

Best Restaurants in NJ

All the old favorites done with a new spin. For tastes you may have had before, try Hunan Triple Delight, Godmother and Son, Seafood Bird’s Nest, Chicken In Three Delights and West Lake Duck, all chef’s specials. And remember, as all meals are prepared individually, they can be ordered with less (or without) corn starch, hot pepper, salt or sugar.

If discussing the best restaurants in NJ makes you want to match your experience to your mode of transport, consider a new purchase from the full inventory of new Kia vehicles at Burlington Kia, a premier Kia dealer serving Burlington, Willingboro, Bristol and Mansfield New Jersey. Many visitors to our showrooms, at 7 West Route 130 South, Burlington, NJ 08016, are more than pleasantly surprised when they discover the high-end provision on our menu, including the Optima Hybrid and the Sportage

Why are my Brakes Squealing

Since brakes are one of the most important safety features of your vehicle, when you notice that dreaded squealing sound coming from your brakes it can definitely generate a bit of panic. Although squealing brake noise can certainly be a cause for concern, try not to become terror-stricken just yet. There are a number of reasons that brakes begin to make a squealing noise, and while sometimes that “nails on the chalkboard” sound can indicate a serious problem, often times the cause is something minor, or even normal.

How do you know when the cause of brake noise is something to be concerned about? The truth is, in many cases you don’t. That is why it is important to have any suspicious noises checked out by a qualified mechanic.

Why are my brakes squealing?

What are Common Causes of Squealing Brakes?

Brake noise can be caused by a variety of things:

  • Driving Conditions: Certain driving conditions, like severe or sudden braking or “riding” the brake on a steep downgrade can cause your vehicle’s brakes to squeal.
  • Weather Conditions: Damp weather conditions, high humidity levels or wet roadways can often cause your vehicle’s brakes to make a squealing or high pitched screeching noise.
  • Type of Brake Pads: Many newer model vehicles are equipped with semi-metallic brakes pads, and while these types of brake pads are a much safer and longer lasting alternative to the older style asbestos pads, they often emit an annoying squeaking sound.
  • Dust Build-up: The dust build-up that is produced from the friction that occurs when you slow or stop your vehicle can cause a squealing noise.
  • Lining Quality: Cheap linings are not made to withstand the heat that occurs from frequent stops, and when the linings get hot they can become glazed and a squeaking sound is often produced, along with decreased braking efficiency.
  • Sticking Calipers: Although this problem is more common with older brake calipers, it can be an issue with new brake calipers as well. When the calipers are not functioning properly, they sometimes clamp down too tightly causing unusual wear on the pads and that dreaded squeal.
  • Worn Brake Pads: Some brake pads are actually equipped with a wear indicator that is designed to produce a high-pitched squeal when it is time for replacement.

If you have noticed any suspicious brake noise, especially if the noise is accompanied by decreased braking efficiency, it is important to have your vehicle’s brakes inspected by a professional service technician as soon as possible in order to avoid more costly repairs or unsafe vehicle operation.

How to Install A Car Seat Into Any Car

Child safety seats, also sometimes referred to as infant safety seat and child restraint systems, are most often spoken of simply as “car seats;” it’s an ambiguous term but one that most people use.

How To Install A Car SeatStates and municipalities mandate the use of car seats for children within certain age, weight, and/or height parameters, but often, parents do not know how to properly use the equipment they have. While most makes and models may be assumed to have at least a little something different about them (and you should always check with your owner’s manual before beginning a project with potential safety ramifications), several How-To steps apply to installing a car seat into any car.

Anchored a car seat in the front passenger seat exposes the child to additional risk in head-on or partial-front collisions (the most common). Using the back seat is much preferred, but each year in the U.S., somewhere between 30 and 50 babies and toddlers die in cars, killed by exposure to extremes of heat or cold by caregivers who forget they are in the car. Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle that you are leaving, regardless of how short a time you anticipate you may be gone.

A 16-state study of crash data determined that children aged three or under were a massive 43 percent less likely to sustain any type of injury, in a car crash, when their car seat was fastened centrally in the back seat. Locating the seat to one side may make it easier to load and unload baby care materials or toys, but it reduces the effectiveness of your precautions by almost half.

So, the best location for a child restraint seat is in the center of the back seat (or middle row, if you drive a three-row SUV).

Manufacturer and Style

installing-a-car-seat-burlington-kia-burlingtonMany hundreds of variations on the theme of child seats are manufactured, and the decision as to which is best may be down to aesthetics, recommendations from others or multi-purpose applications, such as seats that become carry-cots when removed from the vehicle.

There is a constant here, though: Every child safety seat you consider MUST bear an approval stamp from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA. This governmental body tests, researches and rates car seats, and no product without its approval should be considered, no matter what its other appeals.

As noted, each individual vehicle is likely to be a little different when it comes to installing a car seat, but a universal consideration is that the seat be anchored effectively to the vehicle. A child strapped into a seat which becomes free-flying in a collision is an endangered child.

Since 2002, it has been a regulation that all newly manufactured cars be fitted with the LATCH – Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children – system. This equipment provides secure, heavy metal anchors and tethers beneath or to the sides of the rear seats of all cars, trucks and SUVs that have rear seats. Learn more at the Department of Motor Vehicle’s site.

Is the 2014 Kia Optima Kia’s most ambitious Car?

Kia Optima NJ

2014 Kia Optima

You have to admire the ambition that has been driving KIA Motors in the recent years. If you are unaware, just take a look at their most recent models; you will appreciate that they are designed by an ambitious team. One of the most talked about models is the 2014 KIA Optima. This model is already causing ripples in the market, unbalancing the lead of most of the European and Japanese heavyweights in its segment.

The 2014 KIA Optima comes with 1.7-liter 136PS diesel engine matted with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Most sedans come with 2.0-liter engines but this does not mean the Optima lags behind. Quite contrary, the U2 1.7-liter engine exudes a performance that can match any of the European or Japanese models with a 2.0-liter engine.

When the 1.7-liter engine is combined with automatic transmission, the Optima can go from 0 – 60 mph in 11.5 second. The Optima achieves even a faster acceleration when equipped with a manual transmission, performing the same feat in just over ten seconds.

Kia Optima NJ

2014 Kia Optima

The 2014 Optima is stunning, bringing into reality the desire of KIA to drive in roads in the urban motoring industry. Much of the renovation has been carried out on the bumpers, rear lights, wheels, headlights and fog lamps. These revisions give the 2014 KIA an outward appeal that will rival most of its competition.

2014 Kia Optima Interior

2014 Kia Optima Interior

The designers of the Optima sought to introduce some luxury and comfort to the sedan. They seem to have succeeded in this endeavor as the cabin is luxurious enough to dull some premium brands. The dashboard is better organized with the controls easily accessible. The steering has been revised to give better handling and an upgrade on the seats, center console, door armrest and the gear selector take the Optima’s interior to another level.

Fuel efficiency

Gas Milage

No other car in this segment beats the 2014 Optima in terms of fuel efficiency. Both automatic and manual models are built with fuel efficiency in mind. The automatics have three driving modes: the Active ECO mode, the Normal mode and the Sport mode. The Active ECO mode is specially engineered towards maximum fuel efficiency while the Sport mode is geared towards enhanced engine performance. The automatic Optima has a combined EPA of 47.1 mpg while the EPA of the manual model, which has better fuel efficiency, is pegged at 57.6 mpg. The Optima is not just fuel efficient but also emits low CO2, a concern for buyers that are environmental conscious. CO2 emissions of the automatic is at 158g/Km while for the manual car is at 128g/Km.

Often, economy sedans have been associated with minimal features. However, this is not the case with the 2014 Optima. Some features are no longer a luxury even in sedans. KIA Motors took time to include an array of features into the 2014 Optima. The Optima comes with a revised audio system that seamlessly integrates modern tech gadgets such as the iPod. The navigation system is also improved and now includes a seven-inch screen.

Kia Optima NJ Black and White

Kia Optima

The sedan segment has in the past been overrun by a cartel of European and Japanese models but it seems the 2014 KIA Optima is here to stop that monotony. Production of the Optima is a bold move by KIA Motors aimed at shaking the status quo that has existed in the economy sedan car segment. The 2014 Optima matches and even exceeds it European and Japanese rivals in every aspect. There is no doubt that the Optima will propel KIA Motors at the helm of the sedans segment.

2014 Kia Sorento is Beefed Up

2014 Kia Sorento NJ

2014 Kia Sorento

The 2014 Kia Sorento is almost completely brand new, and Kia has made some interesting decisions with this model. Instead of taking on minor modifications, as is typically done mid-cycle, this compact crossover SUV got a huge makeover. According to Kia, about 80% of the parts for this car are either completely new or majorly redesigned.

Changes under the Hood

The menu of engine options has been totally recharged for the 2014 year. The base engine, a 175-hp 2.4L 4-cylinder, is gone, and the standard option is now a 2.4L 4-cylinder with Gasoline Direct Injection. This new engine has an output of 161-hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. There’s also an all-new optional V6 that offers 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Available Trims

2014 Kia Sorento

2014 Kia Sorento’s

The 2014 model comes in four trim levels: LX, EX, SX, and SX-L. All trims are available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The AWD system is a full-time system that includes torque vectoring cornering control, plus a locking center differential. This crossover SUV gets a full 7.3 inches of ground clearance, which means it can handle some light off-roading with the best of them. During regular highway driving, the ride is smooth and the cabin is quiet. One of the big changes to the ride quality was the suspension components which result in a ride that’s soft and comfortable – though not overly so.

Drive Options

New in 2014 is electronic power steering. Flex Steer, which is standard on both the SX and SX-L but option on the LX and EX, provides drivers with three settings to choose from: Comfort, Normal, and Sport. Typically a driver will choose the setting that feels best to them and leave it there permanently. For example, a driver who appreciates some steering wheel and feels that less is indeed more when it comes to power boost, may choose the Sport and stick with it.

Third Row Seating

Kia Sorento

2014 Kia Sorento Interior

It’s rare for a small or compact crossover SUV to have three-row seating, partially because it’s hard to stretch the size of the platform to have enough space for not only six or seven people, but their belongings as well. The 2014 Sorento manages to do it, and to do it well. Third row seating is available on all trims, and when it’s equipped this way, it does lower the gear space to 9.1 cubic feet when all passengers are on board. However, the cargo bay behind the second row offers 37 cubic feet of space, and the bay behind the second row offers another 73 cubic feet of space.

Standard Equipment

All models are well equipped, from the Base to the truly impressive SX-L. There are numerous features new in 2014 that are standard on the SX-L, including a panoramic moonroof with convenient power shade, heatable seats in the back, power liftgate, heated and ventilated front seats, and blind spot detection system. This last feature is standard on both the SX and SX-L, and optional on other trims, and lets the driver know if there are vehicles behind or next to them in their blind spot. This system is one of the reasons the Kia Sorento is earning top safety nods.
